• Clear Lake Coach Jason Sargent gets coaching honor

Richie Murphy hits this long three in Barron for his 1,000th career point

Cameron senior guard Richie Murphy and Clear Lake Coach Jason Sargent earned top WisSports honors this week as Player of the Week and Coach of the Week.

Murphy, a four-year varsity performer, and two-time first-team all-league selection, and 1,000-point scorer is averaging 19.3 points per game with 7.8 assists for the Comets, who lead the Heart of the North Conference with a 10-0 record. They are 14-1 overall.
He surpassed the 1,000-point mark with 30 points in a 65-54 win over Barron last week. He also had 10 rebounds and four assists in that game.
Also part of the week was a 26-point performance against Bloomer and a 17-point effort over Ladysmith.

Clear Lake head basketball coach, Jason Sargent

Coach Sargent, with his Clear Lake squad on their way to their fifth straight Lakeland Central Conference title, won this week’s Coach of the Week honor.

Sargent’s team is 16-0 and has won 49 straight conference games.
This year’s squad includes a pair of talented juniors in 6-5 Riley Peterson and 6-4, Tyson Blanchard. Peterson is averaging 17.1 points and 7.6 rebounds while Blanchard scores 12.7 points per game, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.6 assists.
Senior Alex St. John averages 8.6 points per game.
Sargent, now in his 20th year as the head coach at Clear Lake has a 284-172 record at the school.

  • Austin Weis of Cameron is ranked No. 7 in the WisSports Three-Point Challenge. He sank 44 of 109 three-pointers up to Tuesday night. Saint Croix Central’s Jackson Pettit is ranked No, 8 with 43 three-pointers in 107 attempts.
  • In Division 5, Luck’s Brayden Eder is ranked No. 10 in the Wisconsin Sports Networks Three-Point Challenge. He’s hit 28 of 77 attempts.
